CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS
Wait what?
Fan films, right? No. These were bankrolled by Dav Pilkey, the creator of Captain Underpants. Koji, the star, ran a sushi place that Dav liked so he asked him if he’d like to star in some Captain Underpants videos. Dav also liked a local call-in public access show starring this dude named Josh Katz, so he asked Josh to direct a series of original CU music videos. Josh knew me and asked if I’d be the cinematographer. Apparently at the time there were endless offers from Hollywood to adapt CU to the big screen and Dav declined them all. Instead he went for this. That is my objective account of the project as I recall it.
It was a weird week of filming.
